Malaysia needs one clear national direction for Web3, set from the very top

Malaysia's Web3 sector has real momentum. What it doesn't have yet is one clear national direction.
Speaking to Digital Edge (The Edge Malaysia Weekly, 13–19 July 2026), ACCESS Blockchain Malaysia president Harpreet Singh Maan said that has to change from the top. "The leadership signal has to come from the very top — the prime minister and the relevant ministers." Without that signal, each regulator keeps optimising within its own domain and the gaps between them stay unaddressed.
The National Blockchain Policy is on the way, and ACCESS is calling for it to bring founders, investors, banks and regulators onto the same page as the ecosystem expands into digital assets, tokenisation and DeFi. One concrete gap Harpreet points to: there is still no sector-wide advertising code that bridges securities and non-securities offerings, something a unified framework could resolve.
